Top Fives - Songs halfway through 2014

Now that the calendar has flipped over to July, there's a number of articles (such as Rolling Stone and Pop Crush, awaiting the inevitable list from Faster Louder) out there putting forth the best songs of the year to date. For mine, there hasn't been as much that have grabbed attention thus far, but these five represent my pick at this point in time.

Dick Diver - "New Name Blues"
The release of new material almost slipped me by. With "Alice" one of my favourite tracks of 2013, here's hoping they continue putting out great Aussie tunes.

Calling All Cars - "Standing in the Ocean"
Currently touring over in the UK, and flying the flag for the Aussie Alternative genre. Saw them live earlier in the year, and their new material was enthusiastically received.

Black Keys - "Turn Blue"
Maybe it's me, but the Turn Blue album is better than El Camino. Of course, it doesn't do as well commercially.

Glass Animals - "Gooey"
One of the few breakthrough bands that have stuck with me thus far. Can see Glass Animals being a big winner come Hottest 100 time.

DZ Deathrays -"Gina Works at Hearts"
Another worthy addition to the fine collection of artists that have emerged from Brisbane over the years.
